Steve Bagley, an NHS worker from Staffordshire, isn't your average gamer. His passion for Super Mario has blossomed into one of the world's most comprehensive collections of Mario-related memorabilia, a testament to the enduring legacy of the iconic plumber. Since the release of Super Mario Bros. in 1985, when he was just five years old, Bagley has amassed nearly 500 games, along with a treasure trove of other collectibles, representing a financial investment he describes as 'many, many thousands'.

His dedication extends beyond mere accumulation. Bagley has curated a website, the aptly named 'Mario Museum,' showcasing his passion to fellow enthusiasts. He believes Mario's enduring appeal lies in its simplicity, a quality that has cemented the character's place in gaming history. 'Mario has definitely stood the test of time,' he explains, 'It takes something truly special to last that long and remain as popular today as ever.'

Bagley's collection isn't simply a nostalgic trip down memory lane. It's a meticulously curated archive spanning decades, encompassing regional variations, rare Japanese exclusives from the 1980s, and even antique Nintendo playing cards from the company's pre-gaming days. He even owns the signature of Shigeru Miyamoto, Mario's creator, adding a unique historical touch to his impressive hoard.

The collection also includes every major Mario game console throughout the years, reflecting the character's evolution alongside the technology. Bagley considers the more obscure titles, often exceptionally rare even in Japan, as the most fascinating aspects of his collection. Beyond the collecting, a significant part of his hobby involves playing the games themselves, and sharing the experience with his son, currently enjoying the fast-paced world of Mario Kart.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros, Bagley is hosting a special online event, showcasing his complete collection for the first time in over 30 years. This unprecedented digital reveal promises an exciting treat for die-hard Nintendo fans worldwide, offering a glimpse into a truly remarkable collection that embodies more than just nostalgia; it represents a significant piece of video game history and social evolution.
