The resulting rush to purchase tickets for the accompanying "Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl" overwhelmed the AMC Theatres app on Friday, October 3rd. Fans reported wait times exceeding an hour to secure tickets for the 89-minute event, which includes the premiere of the music video for "The Fate of Ophelia," the first single from Swift's 12th studio album.
The AMC app displayed a persistent two-minute wait time message, even hours after tickets went on sale at 12:12 p.m. ET. The message explained the queue was implemented to manage the high traffic volume, allotting each user 10 minutes to complete their purchase. Those unable to purchase tickets online were directed to visit a local AMC theater.
An AMC spokesperson acknowledged the overwhelming demand, stating, "The power of the Swifties remains unmatched! But rest assured, our website and mobile app are both stable, and we’re continuing to sell tickets online in big numbers." This special event, envisioned as a large-scale version of Swift's famous "secret sessions," will be shown across all 540 AMC Theatres locations, and thousands more across North America, including Cinemark and Regal locations.
The theatrical release, a continuation of Swift's partnership with AMC Theatres Distribution, will kick off simultaneously across time zones at 3 p.m. ET / noon PT on October 3rd. AMC has confirmed that unlike traditional showings, singing and dancing are encouraged during the event, although standing on seats or blocking aisles is prohibited. The international rollout will see the event begin in select countries alongside the U.S. launch on October 3-5, with tickets for these international showings going on sale Tuesday. Other countries will have showings later in October, with details to be announced around October 3rd.
