In a thrilling matchup between ranked opponents, the Texas Tech Red Raiders pulled off a decisive 34-10 victory over the Utah Utes on Saturday, September 20th, 2025. Hammond's performance was nothing short of spectacular. He tallied 169 passing yards and two touchdowns, complementing his impressive aerial display with 61 rushing yards. His emergence was crucial after starting quarterback Behren Morton left the game following a helmet-to-turf collision in the third quarter, leaving the Red Raiders trailing 10-3. Morton had thrown for 142 yards and two interceptions before his departure.

Texas Tech established an early lead thanks to Cameron Dickey's 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, adding to their advantage with Stone Harrington's career-long 58-yard field goal late in the second. Dickey would later add a crucial 24-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, securing the Red Raiders' commanding lead. Utah's offense struggled against the Red Raiders' stifling defense, managing only 263 total yards and committing four turnovers.

Utah's Devon Dampier threw for 162 yards and two interceptions. The Utes' offense suffered a significant setback when a promising 69-yard touchdown pass was nullified due to an ineligible receiver penalty. Their only first-half points came from a 32-yard field goal by Dillon Curtis.

The game's turning point came in the fourth quarter. After Dickey's second touchdown, Utah's ensuing drive ended with an interception, setting up another Texas Tech touchdown. Hammond capped off the dominant performance with a precise 21-yard touchdown pass to Reggie Virgil, sealing the victory and sending the home crowd packing early.

Following their impressive win, Texas Tech is expected to climb the AP Top 25 rankings, while Utah faces a likely drop after a frustrating offensive performance. Texas Tech enjoys a bye week before facing Houston on October 4th, whereas Utah travels to West Virginia next Saturday. The Red Raiders’ defensive performance was particularly noteworthy, completely shutting down the Utah offense.
