Actor Tyrese Gibson is currently wanted on an arrest warrant in Georgia for animal cruelty, according to local police. The warrant was issued after his four Cane Corso dogs reportedly attacked and killed a neighbor’s pet in mid-September, with Gibson subsequently failing to surrender to authorities.
Fulton County Police Captain Nicole Dwyer stated on Tuesday that the warrant is a consequence of an “ongoing issue” involving Gibson’s dogs, which have been the subject of multiple complaints over the past few months. Expressing grave concerns for public safety, especially regarding children, Dwyer emphasized the necessity of taking the large dogs into custody given the fatal incident.
Authorities had previously issued several warnings to Gibson before the warrant was formalized and had attempted to serve citations at his Atlanta residence, but found the actor absent. Captain Dwyer confirmed speaking with Gibson’s attorney last week, setting a Friday deadline for his client to turn himself in.
Gabe Banks, Gibson’s attorney, communicated via email that the actor is “cooperating fully with authorities to address and resolve this matter responsibly.” Banks also clarified that Gibson was not present during the incident and promptly made the “difficult decision to rehome his dogs to a safe and loving environment.” He extended Gibson’s “deepest condolences to the family who lost their beloved dog” in the tragic event.
The fatal attack unfolded around 10 p.m. on September 18. A neighbor, whose home is approximately half a mile from Gibson’s property, let their small spaniel into their yard. Upon returning just five minutes later, they discovered their dog had been severely mauled. Despite being rushed to a veterinary hospital, the spaniel succumbed to its injuries, Dwyer reported.
Following the attack, Gibson’s four dogs were observed at an adjacent residence, where the homeowner, fearing for her safety, contacted law enforcement. Animal control officers managed to contain the dogs while the frightened neighbor retreated to her vehicle. On September 22, police executed a search warrant at Gibson’s property, but neither the actor nor his dogs were found at the residence.
Earlier on Monday, Gibson posted a video on Instagram featuring various clips of his dogs. The video included audio from “The Breakfast Club” podcast, where the hosts were discussing the ongoing case, but Gibson himself did not offer any verbal commentary.
