The Texans struck first, capitalizing on a strong opening drive highlighted by a 27-yard gain from Nick Chubb, culminating in a touchdown pass to Nico Collins. The Buccaneers responded swiftly, matching the Texans' score with a touchdown of their own, a 20-yard pass from Mayfield to Ryan Miller, capping a drive featuring impressive contributions from Mike Evans, Cade Otton, and Sterling Shepard.

The teams traded scores throughout the first half. A Texans field goal, following a strong run by Woody Marks, put them temporarily ahead, only to be countered by another Buccaneers touchdown, this time a reception by Emeka Egbuka who displayed exceptional agility after the catch. The Buccaneers dominated the first half, converting four out of six third-down attempts and accumulating 169 total yards and 12 first downs.

The second half saw a defensive battle unfold. Key sacks by Tykee Smith and the combined effort of Lavonte David and Elijah Roberts stifled the Texans' momentum. A missed field goal by Chase McLaughlin kept the game tight, bouncing off the upright and giving the Buccaneers possession at their own one-yard line. A crucial third-down conversion by Mayfield, followed by a blocked punt, gave the Texans excellent field position. However, they were unable to fully capitalize, settling for a long field goal.

Late in the game, Mayfield, despite a sack by Will Anderson Jr., kept the drive alive with a remarkable 15-yard scramble on fourth and ten. Another key play was a 22-yard gain by Irving that set up the game-winning score. Ultimately, it was Rachaad White who punched in the winning two-yard touchdown rush with only seconds remaining, securing a hard-fought victory for the Buccaneers.
