After seven memorable seasons, Ego Nwodim is hanging up her SNL hat. The beloved cast member announced her departure from the iconic sketch comedy show via Instagram, sharing a heartfelt message expressing her gratitude for the experience.
Nwodim's announcement, made on Friday, comes just days after NBC seemingly confirmed her return for the show's 51st season. Her Instagram post elegantly captures the bittersweet nature of leaving such a significant chapter in her life: "The hardest part of a great party is knowing when to say goodnight," she wrote. "But after seven unforgettable seasons, I have decided to leave SNL. I am immensely grateful to Lorne [Michaels] for the opportunity, to my castmates, the writers, and the crew for their brilliance, support, and friendship. Week after week on that stage taught me more than I could have ever imagined, and I will carry those memories (and that laughter) with me always. Now invite me to your weddings please!!!"
Nwodim's departure marks the fifth SNL cast member to leave between seasons, following Heidi Gardner, Devon Walker, Michael Longfellow, and Emil Wakim. The Please Don't Destroy trio's on-screen presence will also be altered, with John Higgins departing and Ben Marshall transitioning from writer to featured player. Martin Herlihy remains with the show as a writer.
Despite her departure, Nwodim's contributions to SNL are undeniable. Joining as a featured player in 2018 and promoted to the main cast two years later, she quickly became a fan favorite. Looking ahead, Nwodim's career outside of SNL is thriving, with credits including Peacock's *Mr. Throwback*, Netflix's *Players*, and the upcoming Netflix film *Little Brother* alongside John Cena and Eric André.
