Four individuals have been apprehended in connection with the shooting of Florida State Seminoles linebacker Ethan Pritchard, according to Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Commissioner Mark Glass. The announcement, made Wednesday, revealed that Pritchard was the victim of an ambush while dropping off family members near an apartment complex last month. The young athlete, described as a promising six-foot-two, 224-pound freshman from Sanford, was shot in the back of the head and remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. The incident occurred on August 31st outside apartments in Havana, according to the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office.
Gadsden County Sheriff Morris Young stated that the shooting is believed to be a case of mistaken identity. Those arrested include Jayden Bodison, Caron Miller, Germany Atkins, and an unnamed minor. Bodison, Miller, and the juvenile face three counts of attempted murder and one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle. Atkins is charged with a probation violation. Information regarding legal representation for the accused is currently unavailable.
The shooting occurred just days before Florida State’s season opener against No. 8 Alabama. Pritchard, naturally, did not participate in the game, a 31-17 victory for the Seminoles. Coach Mike Norvell expressed his deep concern and support for Pritchard, highlighting the player's passion and dedication to the sport. Norvell also spoke of the strength shown by Pritchard’s father, Earl, who attended the game and remained steadfast in his support.
The incident underscores the devastating impact of violence and highlights the unwavering support of the Florida State community for their injured player. The investigation continues, with authorities working to uncover all aspects surrounding this tragic event.
