Hollywood luminary Nicole Kidman has initiated divorce proceedings from her husband, acclaimed country music artist Keith Urban, after nearly two decades of marriage. Court documents, obtained by CBS News on Tuesday, confirm the split.

The 58-year-old actress filed the divorce petition on Monday in Davidson County Circuit Court in Nashville, Tennessee, the couple's current residence. The legal papers cite "irreconcilable differences" as the grounds for the dissolution of marriage.
Simultaneously, a separate marital dissolution agreement, bearing the signatures of both Kidman and Urban (57), outlines a detailed co-parenting arrangement for their two teenage daughters. Under this agreement, Kidman will serve as the "primary residential parent," while Urban retains visitation rights and other parental entitlements. Additionally, both parents are mandated to complete a parent education class within 60 days.
Representatives for both Kidman and Urban have been contacted for comment, though no immediate statements have been released.
Kidman and Urban's romance began in 2005, leading to their marriage in 2006 in Australia, their shared homeland. Their relationship often showcased deep affection, with Urban famously telling CBS "Sunday Morning" in a 2016 interview, "Meeting her and getting married was just, wasn't life changing, it was life beginning. It was literally, like, 'OK, life starts.'"
Kidman herself recounted a poignant moment of Urban's devotion in a separate 2016 CBS "Sunday Morning" interview. She shared how, following her father's death in 2014, Urban abruptly left a concert in Nashville and flew six hours to California to be by her side. "I didn't even know how to get up from this," Kidman recalled, crediting her husband's immediate return for helping her through the grief.
As recently as last December, Kidman offered a glimpse into their family life, emphasizing their commitment to daily family breakfasts despite their demanding schedules. "Even with what I've got now, I've been able to juggle things to accommodate my family, which is a fantastic thing," she stated, expressing her enjoyment of her home, family, and work.
Nicole Kidman, a global cinematic star, was previously married to actor Tom Cruise for just over a decade, with whom she shares two adopted children. Her extensive filmography includes acclaimed works like "Moulin Rouge," "Eyes Wide Shut," and "The Hours," for which she received an Academy Award for Best Actress in 2003.
This marks the first marriage for Keith Urban, a celebrated figure in country music for decades. He boasts four Grammy Awards and served as a judge on the popular television series "American Idol" for several seasons.
